Tyler McIntyre
Certified Personal Trainer
Self-EmployedJob Description
My day to day job consists of coaching people in pursuit of their fitness goals; this involves teaching them proper form for each exercise, creating a workout program for them, teaching them stretches and mobility drills in order to allow them to move better and reduce or prevent pain.
In truth I consider myself more of a coach and educator than just a personal trainer. I realize that the real 'meat and potatoes' so to speak of my day to day interaction with clients is learning more about them on a personal level, and discussing the regular goings on of their life - especially if it pertains to self improvement. We often discuss things like sleep, diet, philosophy, as well as work/relationship stresses, business, and career prospects. I essentially use personal training as a vehicle to be able to coach them in all aspects of life. My ultimate goal is to help people to learn to love themselves, flaws and all.

Career Story
Post high school, I went to Conestoga College for a broadcast journalism program. Since I was young, my favourite subjects have been things like English, writer's craft, literature, and drama. I was dead set on being either an English teacher, a writer, or a journalist.
Within a couple months at college, I was bored out of my mind. I did not feel challenged enough, and frankly I was being taught things that seemed to be at the same level and often the same content as what I had learned in high school. I dropped out (it took me a long time to be comfortable with saying that, but it was one of the best decisions I have ever made).
A few years after that I started to experience social anxiety and depression. Looking back I found it quite strange that I had developed social anxiety specifically as some of my favourite things to do have always been reading out loud to people, presenting in front of the class, and in general being the center of attention at social engagements.
After meeting with several psychiatrists and therapists, I recognized that the conventional route of healing was not benefitting me, and I decided to do my own research. Beginning with small steps such as exercises in my bedroom, and some dietary changes I begun to feel better; it has now been eight years since I have last been depressed or severely anxious.
I felt my new calling in life was to speak about the benefits of nutrition and exercise, and began to dive headfirst into the world of holistic health. I have since been a manager or supervisor at four different health food stores, and within the last two years I have done three online certifications and started my own business as a health coach and personal trainer, which leads me to where I am today.
As much as I love the one on one interaction with clients, I would truly like to positively impact as many people as possible, especially youth. For a long time now I have pictured myself doing large public speaking engagements, in combination with expanding my social media presence as well as writing books, and articles.
