Career Story
After High school, I decided to take a year off to work and play soccer, so that I didn't rush into a program that I wasn't sure of. Once that year was over, I got accepted into a concurrent education program (Teaching degree while getting another degree) at Wilfrid Laurier University. Throughout my time in school, I worked during holidays and summers as a part time camp supervisor for the City of Brampton. In my third year of university, the City of Brampton offered me a 12 month full-time contract as a Recreation Programmer. I decided to drop out of the teaching component of my program, and focus on getting my degree part time, while working full time. I was hired as a permanent employee a year later, and I continued to finish my university degree slowly (which I just completed last year). I now have a degree in Social and Environmental Justice and a full time job in recreation.
Needless to say... nothing went as originally planned, but with hard work I was able to find a successful path that never occurred to me as an option.
