Job Description
The Guelph Wish Fund for Children is a small and local charity that grants wishes to kids. For the children in Guelph or Wellington County, who have life-threatening illnesses (like cancer, for example) or have a serious and rare condition that makes it really difficult to get around and fully experience our world, my job is to ensure that they get a 'wish' fulfilled - so that their life is a little bit happier. It's just me and a part-time marketing person - so I get to perform a wide range of jobs such as the financial management, the program development, the fundraising, communications and the promotional aspects of the organization. It's not unlike running a small business, in many ways. My years of being an entrepreneur, as well as a project manager/director, serve me well as I help these children and their family get the resources (i.e. financial assistance like money and services) they need to make their lives a bit happier.
Over a ~30yr time span, I have gone from a family-owned construction business (private sector) to an international economic development (non-profit) where I worked and lived all over the world, to local government, and now back to the non-profit world as an executive director.
