Career Story
After graduating with high honors and multiple scholarships from the Visual Merchandising program at Sheridan. I started my career with a large Canadian event company before having my second child. During my maternity leave, i started freelancing as a graphic designer and then went to work at a large marketing agency, specializing in Small Business Marketing.
After 3 years there, I quit my day job, and went fulltime with my freelancing. I was runner up for the 2019 Young Entrepreneur of The Year through the Oakville Chamber of Commerce and hold a few other awards for my freelance work and contract positions.
When the pandemic hit, small businesses had a hard time justifying their marketing budgets so I took a large contract with an international building supply manufacturer who focused on alternative building supplies and insulation.
When my youngest daughter was 6 months old, I was set to start my current position with Hewson Brothers and was simultaneously diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. With spectacular support from my management team, I worked throughout my treatment and surgeries and now 2 years later, I'm very happy in my role within the building supply industry and proudly cancer free. I also am a member of the Women In Construction committee through the Grand Valley Construction Association.
I regularly guest speak on several topics, mostly surrounding equal parenting, women's rights in the workforce, graphic design and marketing, and my experience and advocacy for young women with breast cancer.
