Job Description
Challenging, but rewarding at the same time. Challenging in that preschool children each have their own special needs that must be responded to in an appropriate manner. This includes not only their cognitive needs, but also social, emotional, and physical development. Rewarding in that their are many moments where you know you've made a difference in a child's life. Also, many opportunities to grow. For example, I started as a preschool teacher, then advanced via further education to take on the roles of Resource Teacher and Developmental Program Consultant (which was a newly created role and not available at the time I started my career). I also pursued my B.A. part-time which enabled me to take on a Supervisory role at a preschool for a year while filling a maternity leave.

Career Story
Started out providing child care services in my home. Pursued my E.C.E. which led to a full-time position at a preschool in Cambridge which was operated by the Region of Waterloo. From there I transferred to Elmira (also operated by the Region). During my time in Elmira I pursued my Resource Teacher Certificate part-time and when completed was able to fill a maternity leave position in Elmira. From Elmira I transferred to a preschool in Guelph which was operated by the County of Wellington and offered me a part-time position as a Resource Teacher initially in their in Centre program and then through their Home Day Care program. I also worked for a Developmental Services agency on a part-time basis. Throughout my time in Guelph I pursued and completed my Bachelor of Arts on a part-time basis. When the Supervisory position became available I pursued it and was able to fill a maternity leave for a year.
After working in the preschool field for many years I went into Volunteer Management (receiving my certification from Conestoga College) and filled a number of contract positions in this role before I decided to retire.
